Common names: Zebra Haworthia (Smooth Form), Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata
Family: Asphodelaceae

Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata is a charming, compact succulent known for its smooth, glossy leaves and symmetrical rosette shape. A variation of the well-known Zebra Haworthia, this form lacks the prominent white tubercles on the outer leaf surfaces, giving it a sleek, polished appearance that makes it highly sought after by collectors.

Origin and Habitat

Native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata grows in rocky, well-drained areas under the partial shade of shrubs or grasses. It thrives in semi-arid environments with bright, indirect light and infrequent rainfall.

Plant Description

This small, slow-growing succulent forms tight rosettes of firm, dark-green leaves that taper to a fine point. Unlike the typical H. attenuata, the glabrata variety has smoother leaf surfaces with subtle, fine white markings on the inner sides. Mature rosettes usually reach about 10–12 cm in diameter and may produce slender flower stalks with small, white, tubular blooms in spring or summer.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light or gentle morning sun. Too much direct light can cause leaf stress or fading.

Watering
Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering during winter dormancy.

Soil
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Adding perlite, pumice, or coarse sand improves aeration.

Temperature
Ideal temperatures are 18°C–28°C. Protect from frost and avoid temperatures below 10°C.

Additional Information

Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata is an ideal indoor plant — tolerant of low humidity, slow-growing, and easy to care for. It forms small offsets over time, creating neat clusters. Its clean, smooth leaves give it a refined, minimalist aesthetic, making it perfect for modern décor and succulent collections alike.
