Parodia haselbergii is a small, globular cactus native to South America, appreciated for its bright yellow flowers and attractive ribbed body.

Origin and Habitat

This species originates from the mountainous regions of southern Brazil and Uruguay. It typically grows in rocky, well-drained soils in semi-arid climates with moderate sunlight.

Plant Description

Parodia haselbergii forms small, round, green stems with distinct ribs lined with clusters of short, white or yellowish spines. In spring and summer, it produces large, vibrant yellow flowers that open during the day and attract pollinators. The cactus remains compact, usually growing up to 10 cm in diameter.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers bright light to full sun. Gradually acclimate to full sun to prevent sunburn.

Watering
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Significantly reduce watering in winter.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus soil mix.

Temperature
Ideal temperatures range from 18°C to 27°C. Protect from frost and prolonged cold.

Additional Information

Propagation is usually by seed or offsets. Parodia haselbergii is suitable for container growing and rock gardens. It is drought-tolerant and requires good airflow to prevent rot and fungal issues.
