Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi is a low-growing succulent native to Mexico and Central America. It is widely cultivated worldwide for its attractive foliage and ease of care.

Origin and Habitat

This species thrives in dry, rocky soils and open areas with well-draining conditions. It is adapted to warm, semi-arid climates with seasonal rainfall.

Plant Description

Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi forms spreading mats or low shrubs with fleshy, scalloped leaves that are pale green to bluish-green, often tinged with lavender or pinkish hues. The leaves are thick and covered with a powdery coating. Small, bell-shaped, orange to coral flowers bloom on slender stalks during late winter to spring.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers full sun to partial shade. The leaf color intensifies with more sunlight.

Watering
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Soil
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus soil mix.

Temperature
Ideal temperature range is 15°C to 27°C. Protect from frost, as it is sensitive to freezing temperatures.

Additional Information

Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi is easy to propagate from leaf or stem cuttings. Its spreading habit and colorful foliage make it suitable for ground cover, rock gardens, and container plantings. It is drought-tolerant and adapts well to dry, warm environments.
