Haworthia truncata is a distinctive succulent native to South Africa, easily recognized by its unique, truncated leaf tips that appear as if cut off flat.

Origin and Habitat

This species is native to the arid, rocky regions of the Northern Cape Province in South Africa. It grows naturally in shallow soils among rocks, often partially shaded by shrubs.

Plant Description

Haworthia truncata forms compact, low-growing rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves arranged in opposite pairs. The leaves are rectangular with flat, truncated tips that often display translucent “windows” or markings. Leaf color ranges from green to grey-green. During summer, it produces slender flower spikes with small, tubular, white or pale pink flowers.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to partial shade. Avoid harsh midday sun to prevent leaf damage.

Watering
Water moderately in the growing season, ensuring soil dries out between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix.

Temperature
Thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 27°C. Protect from frost.

Additional Information

Propagation is commonly by offsets. Its unusual leaf shape makes it a prized plant for collectors and succulent enthusiasts. Suitable for container growing, rock gardens, and terrariums, it is drought-tolerant and prefers good airflow with moderate humidity.
