Common names: Haworthia cuspidata
Family: Asphodelaceae

Haworthia cuspidata is a small, slow-growing succulent native to the Western Cape of South Africa. It is prized for its distinctive translucent leaf windows and compact rosette form.

Origin and Habitat

This species naturally grows in shaded, rocky environments and slopes in semi-arid regions with well-drained soils. It often grows under shrubs, which provide partial shade.

Plant Description

Haworthia cuspidata forms tight rosettes of thick, triangular leaves that taper to a pointed tip. The leaves are dark green with translucent “windows” on the upper surfaces, allowing light to penetrate for photosynthesis. The leaf surfaces may have faint white markings or lines. It produces small, tubular, pale pink to white flowers on slender stalks in late winter to spring.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Avoid direct midday sun, which can cause leaf burn.

Watering
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix.

Temperature
Thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 27°C. Protect from frost.

Additional Information

Haworthia cuspidata is easy to propagate by offsets or leaf cuttings. Its unique translucent leaves make it a popular choice for succulent collections, terrariums, and container gardens. It is drought-tolerant and prefers conditions with good airflow and moderate humidity.
