Anacampseros telephiastrum is a small, clumping succulent native to arid regions of South Africa, particularly the Karoo and surrounding semi-desert areas. It is prized for its delicate, colorful foliage and compact growth habit.

Origin and Habitat

This species naturally grows in rocky, well-drained soils within dry, open scrublands and semi-arid environments. It thrives in areas with low rainfall, high sunlight, and temperature extremes typical of the Karoo region.

Plant Description

Anacampseros telephiastrum forms small, dense clusters of rosettes with slender, fleshy leaves that are green to bluish-green, often tipped with red or purple hues. The leaves are slightly hairy or covered with fine bristles. In late spring to summer, it produces small, star-shaped pink to purple flowers that open in bright sunlight.

Care Instructions

Light
Prefers bright light to full sun. It grows best with several hours of direct sunlight daily.

Watering
Water sparingly and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.

Soil
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus soil mix.

Temperature
Ideal temperatures range from 15°C to 28°C. Protect from frost, as it is sensitive to freezing temperatures.

Additional Information

Anacampseros telephiastrum is easy to propagate from leaf or stem cuttings. Its compact size and colorful foliage make it popular for small succulent arrangements, rock gardens, and container displays. The plant is drought-tolerant and well-suited to hot, dry conditions.
